I'm having a difficult time getting the lighting right in order to be able to see what I'm drawing using this tool. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet as art is just a hobby for me. If there are any hints and tips I'd appreciate it.
Jeff V.
Great tool to get the correct proportions when drawing or painting… used it to get the image on the canvas and it was all fun from there..

IT'S ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE THAT AN INSTRUMENT INVENTED MANY MANY DECADES AGO CAN FUNCTION MUCH MORE SIMPLY, RELIABLY AND EFFECTIVELY THAN ANY MODERN DIGITAL "INNOVATION"! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS (SIMPLY)AMAZING DEVICE AVAILABLE AGAIN. BEAUTIFULLY CONSTRUCTED AND PACKAGED. - ERNIE FOSSELIUS

It took me a little time to adjust to it.
I really liked it when I got used to it.

It seems to not work properly. The reflection is blurry and small format. Not helpful

Awesome tool… Be sure and watch the training videos. I love this device and I am a retired art teacher. There’s always room for improvement .

It is a very usefull toll to help you drawing. Takes some time to figure out but easy to get familiar.
Theresa .
Still figuring it out. I have some visual challenges so it's just a matter of time, trial & error to figure out what works best for me. So far , I am excited!
Whitney .
With the Lucy and the use of a manikin I was able to produce this painting. Before I could not get proportions right. Lucy really helped with my confidence as a painter. Thank you
Stephanie N.
The Lucy has helped me tremendously with my watercolor art. It makes the drawing process so much easier!

right. let me write the review with no yes no questions. I am a former blonde and despite viewing your video I have one piece left over. The sticky peelie offy to be attached thingy. I can actually use the gadget without what ever it does for the moment.

As a tool, the Lucy I got from you folks is very helpful in achieving a believable likeness. The viewing area is large and comfortable. I shut my right eye and hold my head VERY STILL because the parallax involved will make the projected image shift as you wiggle around, so that can get a little tiresome. The trick is get your basic sketch in, important points...where things are... don't belabor it...and swing the Lucy out of the way and proceed on your own. The Lucy cannot make the drawing for you, but she will help you find your way. It's well made, pretty rugged, I haven't destroyed it yet. Now, the one-eye thing means that I have no depth perception looking down at the drawing surface through the Lucy, so I have to struggle a bit getting the pencil point onto the paper in the correct spot, or I find I'm trying to draw a quarter-inch above the surface. It's a little difficult to see the surface when concentrating on the subject and trying to get them to all register: image, subject, pencil. This takes practice and you will NOT do well the first couple of tries. So, try try again. I use a mechanical pencil with a TINY lead to make my initial plots of what-goes-where and finish off with the usual tools, but to get the details of eyes and lips, it requires fine lines. The image is NOT magnified, which is a clue to my Lucy drawings: they all look small. Another helpful hint which is just common sense: clamp the Lucy OPPOSITE of your drawing hand. I'm left handed, Lucy is clamped to the right edge of the board. It's designed to be either/or and that's nice. My only misgiving has nothing to do with the Lucy, it's with me: I feel I have taken a giant shortcut, when I look at how well something has turned out, I feel I've not applied myself to the full because the Lucy layed it out for me so plainly and I just followed the image, I have cheated the process somehow, but that's just me, as I say, and is actually a demonstration of how effortlessly you can do things with this device. I'm sure the Masters before me didn't have this crisis of conscience, and neither should the student, but don't become RELIANT on the Lucy, use her when a certain level of fidelity is absolutely needed. Thanks! A well designed and crafted product that didn't break the bank. Jeff Callahan, Atlanta.

This tool helped me reduce a drawing. 1) If you wear glasses, you can put a cloth over the hole at the top area of the viewer to eliminate a reflection that can interfere with seeing. 2)You have to be able to set up lighting contrast between the object being drawn and its background, otherwise it’s hard to see some edges. I may be able to adjust the ambient lighting to fix this. Any comments or hacks are welcome.

Great tool that makes it possible to actually draw!!!

A nice little tool for getting started! Thank you.
Jay G.
What a great tool , it’s been pretty helpful.
Travis F.
I must not be doing something right, can barely see the subject I'm trying to draw.
Patricia
It is made well and very easy to use.
Martyn H.
Simple but effective. The Lucy saves me considerable time, allowing me to lay down the very basic outlines that suit the style of my work. It's easy to use and adaptable enough for varying situations. Not being a very good artist, I am certainly enjoying it as a better alternative to tracing on a lightbox.
Joy S.
I couldn't wait to start using it! So easy to set up and see the image. Outlining my picture made it go so much faster with this tool.
I am already planning my next artwork with it.
Patricia
Love this!

McNutt R.
Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm new at this so being a little hesitant.

I’ve only used it once but it isn’t as easy to use as hoped and works only on very small images.
Shane K.
It's great! It has helped me feel more confident at drawing!!!

I really like the Luci, I am just learning to draw and with Luci I was able to draw my sister using a photo. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. I am looking forward to increasing my drawing skills as a beginner.
Nik H.
I've wanted a camera lucida for a very long time, and I'm so excited to finally have one. It's great for getting your proportions down quickly.
Ronald k.
Lucy drawing tool is helping with quick sketching no more grid inlarging
Joseph C.
The Lucy has definitely helped my drawing, especially of people. It was always hard to get the proportions right, and it has definitely helped.
Kathy S.
This is a helpful tool, particularly in starting a painting or drawing. It particularly aids in establishing preliminary design, perspective, and values, all of which are basic to a successful result. Like any tool, it requires practice but is a good step in developing skills.
Joan H.
Think it has wonderful possibilities & an encouragement to keep drawing…like the independence of choosing how you finish coloring the item
Mary B.
I love it but I need something to make the picture bigger !!! Please !
Randall G.
Way back when David Hockney wrote his book I made a home made camera lucida and a camera obscura. I think I learned more about drawing and color theory in the first 4 four months of drawing with these optical aids than all my time as a student at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Your "Lucy" has the advantage of being a professional well made piece of hardware that I would recommend to anyone. Being portable is great for drawing on location outdoors or at a friends house.
If any one is on the fence about getting a Lucy I would say buy it you will not be disappointed.
Ava J.
I absolutely love my Lucy! It has significantly helped me with my proportions and time saving! I also have a Lucy flex and magnifier for larger pieces!
Anna L, L.
I'm sure this works very well for some but it was not what I needed. thank you for the full refund on my order. I will continue to check out your ads.

Very cool and easy to use!

The Lucy Drawing Tool is a game changer for me. I can easily sketch the outline of what I am looking at without the frustration that I always experienced in the past. Just working with it for a few weeks, I can see how it has enhanced the way I am noticing proportions and relationships between objects and shapes. It is very easy to set up so wherever I am, I can attach it to a surface and start to work. This practice sketch (attached) I did in just a few minutes. Thank you for creating this marvelous aid for those of us not naturally talented in drawing.
Kathy C.
I love this tool. It gives me a nice outline to work from. I'm going to let my kids work with it too. Help them get more into art. I've done several so far and it's really enjoyable to use. Then I just finish the drawing or I paint it.
Steven L.
I tried it without reading instructions. Even though I am left handed it work good when I set it up for a right hander. I made two drawings, now I'm making a third , which I plan to paint. But I'm going skip for now a draw my grandson's face from a photo.
Doug B.
This is genius, I love it ! I'm helping my 10 year old grandson use it, he is very interested in learning to draw and art in general. I'm very pleased with the Lucy
Marilyn H.
I love the fact that the Lucy mini is small and easily portable. It’s easy to set up and leave in place or pack in my art bag. I also like the accessories and really need to get the photo attachment, so I can work from photos I have taken. A great tool and addition to my studio.
Prerona P.
We bought the Lucy Mini as a drawing tool for visitors to try out. Our current exhibition at The Heong Gallery is about David Hockney and his theories about how artists create pictoral space and the technologies they use. Visitors love it! Especially to have a go at drawing the Ai Weiwei tree sculpture in the courtyard outside.
