LUCY mini vs. LUCY flex vs. LUCY pro
You may be asking: “Besides the cost, what’s the difference between the three LUCY models?”
The biggest difference is image size.
The LUCY mini reflects an image up to 12×18 inches.
The LUCY flex gives you a larger 19×27 inch image.
The LUCY pro offers the largest image at 20×37 inches.
There are also differences in materials and build:
The LUCY mini has a durable polycarbonate head, a steel flex arm, and a sturdy plastic clamp.
The LUCY flex upgrades to a fiberglass-infused polycarbonate head and a solid aluminum clamp.
The LUCY pro is built from lightweight aluminum alloy with a reinforced mechanical arm and cross-support for maximum stability.
Most people choose the LUCY flex because it offers the best balance of size, stability, and flexibility—it can be used sitting, standing, or even at an easel. The LUCY mini is a great option if you’re just getting started or don’t need a large image. But if you want the very best, or you need the largest and most stable setup, the LUCY pro is the way to go.
Th Draw Lucy has improved the accuracy of my observational drawing. Before, I had finish with accuracy close enough. Now, the proportions are dead-on. I can see the difference. Great training for the eye.
First attempts potted spider plant and a cat tree. My boyfriend has no drawing talent and he did amazing.
I will use it for my own art projects but what better way to test it than on someone without the skill.
After a few minutes adjusting and tweaking, it was simple. I definitely like the technique of holding a filter in my non drawing hand intermittently using it, rather than clamping it in place.
I was able to draw this from off my computer screen. Going to include the words, “What Mozart would have created if he’d studied baking instead of music,” in calligraphy copper plate.
This is the greatest invention since sliced bread!
First, let me tell you what this is: this is a sketching tool that will help you get the rough sketch on difficult to draw items like hands or faces. What it is not is a magic wand to make you an instant artist. Also, you have to learn to even out the light so you can see both the object you’re trying to draw and your hand as you draw it. You will still have to work. You will still have to develop your talent.
This is my first experience using this type of optical device to accelerate transferring images onto canvas. I did a quick test using a photograph of three horses and learned a great deal just in that one experiment. It clearly is a useful tool for artists painting on small-scale canvases. I also purchased the photo enlarger lens, but I haven't used it yet, so I'm not sure what canvas size will be my upper limit, given the area I have to work in. Overall, I look forward to using the LUCY Pro more and recommend it to other artists who like to tinker with new tools.
Here’s the 1st attempt with the Lucy Pro…I’ve been using a projector but thought I get one of these to try…it works good but I’d like to do bigger sized pieces…I ordered the photo enlarger tool but have not received it as if yet…I will mess around with it some more and maybe reevaluate the tool again later…4 stars is all I can give it…it seems to be well built but a bit pricey.
I have used both the LUCY pro and LUCY flex in my field drawings and have found it helpful in terms of proportions and distances. Proportions and distances are major components in describing the Western landscape. Many students (and workshop attendees) struggle to render both the immensity of the high mountain peaks and the great distances between the viewer and the subject. The use of a LUCY can be a great help in this regard and can allow for artists to more quickly move onto mark making and color descriptions.
I bought the LUCY in the hope it would help my students learn to draw. Some students that had trouble concentrating with normal drawing instruction showed a renewed focus and showed considerable renewed effort in learning to draw. It is easy and fun to use and I would recommend you give it try. Here are some samples of portraits that I have done. The LUCY is a big time-saver and makes getting a likeness much easier.
As an art teacher and owner of my own art school in Maui, I was very excited about the new LUCY pro. My first project using the LUCY was an 1114 acrylic painting of a sail boat in the Lahaina harbor. I worked from one of my photographs once I had it all alined to my satisfaction I was able to draw the image with ease. As soon as I master the use of this wonderful tool, I plan on teaching my students how to use it. They are as excited as I am and cant wait to get their hands on it.
Your instrument, in keeping with the tradition of a true craftsmen tool is a worthy addition alongside all the other items to be found in an artists studio. The LUCY opens up a whole new world of possibilities. This instrument, requires a degree of patience and skill which rewards with truly amazing results which are genuinely astounding. The LUCY reduces the time it takes to measure a subject thus enabling rapid progress for the artist.
I LOVE THIS THING! I am so pleased and so excited and it is like MAGIC. It has added to my art degree training and expand what I can do. You can also sit in front of a computer screen with a digital image and use the LUCY to draw it. I tried looking at some digital images through the LUCY and view is 100% better than with an opaque projector.
The LUCY is suited to reducing panoramas and natural scenes to the size of a large drawing pad, and its portability makes it ideal for such image capture. You dont have to rely upon electricity as with projection systems, and the filters help one deal with all manner of natural lighting. You really learn a lot about light and seeing when you begin to play around with such an instrument. You feel like part of the camera, in fact you are a part of the camera; the mirror reflects the image onto a surface, the artist plays the part of the developing chemicals which fix the image on the paper. Another and perhaps greater instruction one gets from using the LUCY is practice in seeing and manipulating proportion, which, as Leonardo Di Vinci said, is divine.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Please give us a call or send an email, and we can help you with any issues you were having, or help you with a return if it’s not for you.
I wish I would’ve bought the pro… I didn’t get the mini I got the next one up from the mini I paid 151 for the one I bought, video I watched demonstrate a much better and bigger result. I got it pretty fast, I’m satisfied with the one I bought, however I still wished I researched further I probably would have bought the pro

I'm very sorry to hear that and honestly a little surprised. We can definitely help you with a return, and we're also here to help you with any issues you're having.
I did not like using the Lucy drawing tool. I was using it with a photo and it was hard drawing using one eye and keeping it focused in one spot. It was dark even though I had extra lighting around the photo.
I returned the product and waiting to be reimbursed.
I would like Josephine to explain how to use the Lucy to me. I had a ministroke and need someone to explain how to use it. I know using it will add to my therapy. I ordered the Lucy speaking to Josephine in CA. originally.
I think perhaps I should have ordered a flexible neck Lucy perhaps that model is easier to work with.
I will be happy to share my art work with you when I know how to use it efficiently. Does it actually project an image which is what I wanted originally. Veronica
