The Lucy has improved my drawing so much!
Draw Lucy has made a big difference in my paintings. Here are 2 that I recently did...I've included a little snippet of the reference photos (don't want to violate copyrights). I am so pleased with the results. It can easily be installed and moved, but I've installed it on the edge of the desk so that I can swing it into and out of place, depending upon what I am doing at the moment. The instructional videos are great, too, so don't hesitate to use them when you are setting it up and first learning to use the Draw Lucy. If you do any kind of detailed art, Draw Lucy is the tool for you!
I was very skeptical at first. Not about whether it would work or not, but about whether or not I would actually use it. I am pleasantly surprised with how much I LOVE this tool! Once I really dialed it in, it has helped so much with setting up the basic outlines/compositions while still giving me enough creativity to flesh it out from there.
a pen drawing I made from a photo of this castle with minor corrections; the castle, a public service building for the younger is in Hoboken, Antwerp; not so special as a building but important for the community.
This is smaller than 8x10 . It is must fast to get it done and save time . I like it and need up sized
This is sooooo much fun. Really. For a long time I felt that using the Lucy would be cheating. I like to draw. But after I watched several videos by David Hockney, I really wanted to try it for myself. I am convinced the Lucy will make me a better artist. Next I plan to try sketching out a portrait with paint.
I love it. Used and enjoyed. Now it is part of my therapy...painting. I want to know if you have any advice or special attachment to the Lucy's to draw paint model in a bigger canvas or paper.
I found it a little bit difficult to figure out how to get my image properly contained on the canvas, even after watching the how-to videos of the site. I'm not sure if it's because I was trying to paint a picture on a canvas that was bigger than a standard 8.5x11 or what. I didn't feel like the canvas was huge (maybe 12x16 or so) but I ended up being very glad I had bought the attachment that transfers photos as well as real life objects. I ended up printing a photo-sized copy of the picture, and then mounting it on the photo attachment in order to get the sizing right. Then it worked. The only issue I had was that the printing wasn't the best quality, so tracing the outlines became a little difficult. I decided next time I will print a picture of the photo and then TRACE THE MAJOR OUTLINES WITH MARKER so they are easier to see and transfer to the canvas. Overall, the Lucy made the process of making a pic into a painting MUCH easier than trying to get all the perspectives perfect myself. I'm glad I have it, and am looking forward to making more paintings for family members, as well as other subjects.
I enlarge a print of a photo and use the Lucy to copy onto canvas. Then I paint it. Helps a great deal!
The Lucy Drawing Tool has really given me a leg up in my watercolor painting. I believe what the experts say about drawing being a critical element in painting, but it has not been easy for me. I have done many "learn to draw" exercises but progress has been slow. Tracing with the tool has given me insight into perspective with weird shapes and allowed me to get a good start on paintings without wearing out erasers. I'm actually creating while bypassing the stress and grueling effort to get started. It has helped me improve on my freestyle drawing as well.
Love my Lucy Flex. I've been tracing from photos prior to getting the Lucy. Huge problems getting proportions and angles correct. The Lucy provides a new level of expertise unavailable via the tracing method. Still getting used to scaling the drawing and transferring the image to my canvas. Now that I have the Lucy, I'm making an attempt at portraits and getting a better likeness. The Lucy Flex will get me on the way.
I’m using the Lucy drawing tool and photo enlarger to draw peoples pets on a canvas and then I teach a class where they paint over my drawing to create their own pet portrait. It has been so much fun! The drawing tool allows me to creat a perfect drawing of their pet in very little time. It’s easy and fun and I can get an exact likeness of the pet! Lucy has been essential for my business to save time and frustration and give people the best portrait of their pet possible, regardless of their skill level.
This photo was my first attempt to use the Lucy. I haven’t done much because I am waiting for the drawing course which I ordered two or three weeks ago. Duane
I like it so far. Looked it over real good. Looks like a nice tool. Haven’t been able to use it yet. I have to finish a few other projects before I get back into drawing.
Lucy is a very cool tool! It only took a couple of tries to get the hang of it. It gives the artist a great starting point and is fun to use!
Just getting started using the LucieArt device but exciting to use it! Certainly will help me expand and improve my art drawing skills.
I am 73 and just learning to draw and paint. I even have a hard time tracing!. After severar hours of trying I finally found what works for me and was able to complete a drawing. I still need practice but I am doing much better with the Lucy.
This is an amazing tool, and I am so grateful for finding this. Thank you so much from Canada - Xorplon p.s we are all connected via creation energy, so I'm going to use this to create as much as I possibly can Thank you SO much.
First time I try before didn't work. Using Lucy it was much easier.
It was initially difficult to align, etc., but your videos were very helpful. My only specific issue is that it seems to distort the image top to bottom. Further use may resolve that.
It was easy to assemble using the instruction videos. I made a simple pencil drawing before adding watercolor.
Took awhile to get the hang of it but was worth the effort
Very pleased received yesterday 4th jan great service from the USA thank you
This was Xmas gifts and the 2 girls loved thim.
I am intrigued by The Lucy. I set it up (very easy) but have not used it yet. I need to enlarge my subjects to fit my paper so I need to invest in the attachment. I think it will work well and be fun!
In a drawing, the correct dimension is important. If this is correct, you can afford a lot, but this has to fit. Lucy is a great help to correctly transfer the distances and dimensions.
The only problem and it is a major one, is that I cannot see my pencil tracing on the original photo. It is blurred. It is probsbly the difference between using right eye and left eye. If I keep both eyes open, then I can see where my pencil is going but my placement has changed. Any suggestion to overcome this would be helpful. It makes the process hard!
Excellent tool for quick sketch under painting.
I like the Lucy because it helps me make the drawing/painting more realistic. As I have eye problems, my left eye being more focused than my right eye. I use it left handed when I’m actually right handed in order to focus, I wish I could add a corrective lens to the Lucy so this drawings were easier to do. Even so it’s a great help to me when doing art.
I like to work with color and have done quilting, tie-dye and other crafts. But there has always been sadness that I cannot draw much better than stick figures. Now I can really say I LOVE LUCY ! Vincent would be surprised at what I made of Dr. Gachet but that's part of the fun: start off with an outline and color as you will. Thank you Lucy.
The Lucy is easy to use! Customer service is so responsive.
Fantastic tool! So easy to use and works exactly as advertised! I haven’t drawn anything in a long time and have always wanted to buy one of these. As soon as I got it I put it to use. Drew a pencil sketch of a photograph from a scenic viewpoint here on the Big Island of Hawai’i. I would have uploaded a pic of it but I gave it away as a birthday gift. This art tool is very well built. Very sturdy. Should last a lifetime but if it doesn’t, I know where to get a replacement! When you buy this (and you WILL want to!), look for a discount coupon. They offer them. They are very accommodating. Anyway, happy drawing!
Have not used it yet have been very busy but when I do I will review it even further
Could use a few tips how to better use tool to lessen foreshortening.
I love this!
Like to sketch but always had difficulty with the dimensions Lucy is perfect to outline your subject quickly. Highly recommend this product.
Nice addition to the artist tool kit. Helps my kids too!
I paint commissioned animal pet portraits as well as landscapes. I used to enlarge or reduce the size of photographs and then trace them onto a canvas as necessary. The attached wolf painting was accomplished by using a picture of the wolf and drawing the wolf onto a drawing surface using the Lucy Flex. I then used tracing paper to transfer the wolf drawing to my canvas. I found that the experience of creating my drawing enhanced my finished painting.
It was a quick but necessary learning curve. I needed to figure out how to light the subject but as it is my first go, I’m pretty pleased with the results. I think the Lucy flex was the right one for me, I wish I had bought the photo enlarger when I got the Lucy. I’ll wait for Christmas to get it. It’s hard to get a feel for things over the internet but I wish I could have realised how good the Lucy before I bought it. My advice: just get it. You will love it, it’s sturdy and well made. It helps you get to painting faster. As a professional artist anything that can speed up the process is a good thing.
I really love my Lucida. It’s simple yet has really taken my drawing to a new level. Often, the most difficult part of portraiture is sketching the initial proportions, and the Lucida makes that part so easy, it almost feels like cheating. But then I remember the old masters used it too :) Here in the pic you can see my set-up. I’m generally using a pic from my phone as the source image, which of course I used to take this photo, but you can see where my phone is usually taped to the top shelf of my desk for use with the Lucida. Works wonders!
I really had high expectations because of the videos I'd seen. When I first received it, it was NOT as easy to use as I'd expected... HOWEVER, once I got the hang of it, it really, really works great! Other than the learning curve, figuring out how to use it, I really have enjoyed it and am grateful I took the leap to purchase. I highly recommend anyone - new artist or professional - everyone will get use from this great tool!
I bought the Lucy to document archaeological finds in a journal with pen and ink drawing. I was able to use it after only a couple of minutes of setup. I am still playing with the ideal lighting conditions and workflow, but I was surprised how bright the reflected images were.
It does exactly what I was hoping it would do. Thank-you
I’ve just started and I love using Lucy. She gives me a different perspective when drawing. I am still learning how to utilize Lucy without my glasses, however I’m not daunted. As you can see from my sketch, it can be done.
Took a little time to get the hang of it, but now would not be without it. Great gadget..
I ordered the flex model. The only reason I didn't give it a top rating is I had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago and setting it up was a little difficult. I think set up will become easier the more I use it. I used the following: Baby Elephant; Pitt Charcoal, black ink, and Kuretake Gansai Tambi Japanese Watercolor Teresa Harson
There is a definite learning curve to using the Lucy. I can see the "ghost" pretty well depending on the size of my original photo. I can't wait to get better at using it.
This was my first animal photo ever. Having Lucy made proportion perfect. I love it.
I am a beginner and amateur, but would love to take it to a higher level. The Lucy has already helped tremendously by helping my hand eye coordination, perspective, stroke technique and speed. Now I am able to spend more time actually improving art vs set up. The Lucy has improved my confidence and skill level painting from real life As well. I highly recommend the Lucy!!!
The videos were good to find. I would have appreciated some written instructions (step by step) for assembly of the package I bought. It was a bit confusing. It was helpful on a couple of projects already!
This is a drawing that a friend traced. She was nervous at first but with Lucy and my guidance she was able to feel confidence that she can draw more than just stick figures.
I have known about it for years. Glad to be working with it. Not ready to show anything yet . Just getting used to it. I will recommend to my artist friends. Thank you.
Useful for a beginner and a good tool to experiment with the old masters ways to a faster outline. Shouldn’t be a replacement for still life proportions.
This makes it much easier to keep items in perspective.
I used Lucy for the first time right after I received it. It was easy to set up and I was able to draw from a photo on the first try. I used it to draw from a photo of a pink Cadillac that I used in a Day of the Dead painting I'm selling in a local gallery. It helped me catch some of the detail and perspective that I was having trouble capturing on my own. Looking forward to using it for landscapes next.
The Lucy does everything that was advertised, delivered quickly and has increased my wife's ability to draw and me the no talent artist can actually produce reasonable facsimiles. Thankyou very much
Versatile tool, Makes drawing perfectly possible, Though I am a free hand portrait artist, I wanted to try this tool and it is perfect. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to draw.
Portrait of my granddaughter , not finished yet . Still some touch ups to do .
I enjoy using and am having fun with it. I'm still getting used to it.
Makes it easier to get the right size for the drawings. Great way to start learning. .
I really like the LUCY tool. I do wish there was some sort of leveling feature to tell if the tool is level and the object you're drawing is level. All my art is coming out crooked.
My two granddaughters, aged 8 and 5.5 years old, each took to the drawing tool easily, and you could see improvements each time they used it.
I gave it to my 15 year old grand daughter and she LOVES it!! Naturally she is very bright and artistically gifted but she says she'll teach me how to use it . It may be awhile but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks and congratulations on having such a fine product
It's hard to get used to it to transfer the image and very difficult to line everything up properly. Also the low light levels are cumbersome.
Fantastic tool for any beginner to professional artist. I have been creating art for years and this helps speed up the process of getting proportions right. What would take me usually an hour to draw out now takes less than five minutes to draw and get to the painting process much quicker. I love this tool.
my grand daughyer just loved it
Terrance D K.
We returned it . Just not the tool we needed.
The Lucy Flex has really made it significantly quicker and easier to scale a pattern/drawing on to a carving block. I have been impressed with the simplicity of use and the quality of construction; very pleased with the aluminum clamp and the stiffness of the flex arm. Guess turning on the TV in time to catch the episode of Shark Tank this was featured on, was a fortunate "waste" of time. Your helpful tips video was also ....helpful. Thanks!
Was intimidated at first but, loving it now.
I have watched the videos and thought I could go then back to the equipment, set it up and go for it but found that I need to start up the videos and go one step at a time to make it work and haven't had time to do that yet. I'm sure it will be good when I can do that but so far not good. It's much more complicated than I expected, especially when trying to make it work connected to my easel.
Good instruction, handy tool, a bit cumbersome to focus
This product is amazing. It really does work. Exactly like the demo. Easy to assemble. Carry along with supplies. Find it extremely easy to use. Thanks. Offer was excellent for the money.
Speeds up the process of getting a faithful representation of the subject being painted
Helps fine tune hand-eye coordination…Love it to pieces
Great Product but not for everyone.
The LUCY helped with accurate details I needed in my most recent work.
Getting the proportions down really speeds moving onto refining the piece much faster. Also is very portable, and I travel a lot in my work so allows me to produce pieces during off hours in the evening. I am still working on getting set up faster. There are nuances to the process which I am gradually learning….I’ve only had it a couple of weeks and have only had the four opportunities to use it but know I will continue to use it frequently in the future.
I use the Lucy to create this painting from a picture out of a magazine. The only thing I feel is needed is being better able to see exactly where the point of your drawing instrument is on the ghost image on your support. I have played with the lens provided and found that lighting is critical for getting the correct balance between the ghost image and the ghost image of your drawing hand on the ghost image. Richard
This tool is so easy to use, just secure the base to the table. Next, prop your object (I had a Conch shell) up to where you can see it reflecting down onto your canvas.. tada!
Love and enjoy using it. I am trying to use it more for practice.
Product is made very well. I am very pleased with the quality. However, I am having a bit of a difficult time learning to use it correctly. My subject looks like an alien being. I am not going to give up yet. Getting more proficient with each use.
GREAT IDEA, BUT DIFFICULT TO SET UP FROM SUBJECT MATTER TO THE CANVAS. DISTANCE DETERMINES SCALE. BUT ONCE YOU GET IT SET UP, IT SAVES TIME FROM MAKING A GRID PATTERN ON THE DRAWING/CANVAS. LIKE THE RESULTS OF HAVING PROPER PROPORTIONS AND PERSPECTIVE. THIS COULD BE IMPROVED WITH MORE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO MAKE IT EASIER TO SET UP AND MORE STURDY. WILL CONTINUE USING IT BECAUSE OF GOOD RESULTS ALBEIT BEING CUMBERSOME.
Found it extremely helpful and useful in creating a drawing or painting...highly recommend it...

I am having trouble trying to use it and want to so badly !!!!
Simple to set up, less than 5 minutes...experimenting, I was even able to draw a picture from my iphone gallery, holding my the iPhone less than an arms distance away. I wanted it to help with a quick outline of humans I basically draw and paint animal portraits. And I had one sketched on paper from my Phone within minutes! Dont go by the negative reviews, I love it!
This is the tool Ive been looking for all my life! Easy to use, does what its supposed to and Def worth every penny.
The instrument was well constructed. Requires some effort to use successfully. Lighting is crucial. Tablet apps available that do a similar task.

Best $100+ I have spent in years! (Besides food bank donations, but that's different) Okay, well, yes, the instructions are worse than useless; if you are a first timer, they are counter-productive! The online tutorials help, somewhat. I have not watched all of them, so I hesitate to make a sweeping statement, ....let's just say I was reminded that the best art class I ever attended was not presented by the best artist, but the best teacher. I love the product itself. I am anticipating a long and fruitful relationship with Lucy, though it's clear Lucy is not here to woo me! I am fairly old (for a mammal) and have not experienced the joy of taking on a technique as a novice in quite awhile. We've made amazing progress in the last 24 hours, despite a few spats and misunderstandings where Lucy and I needed to turn our backs to each other and sulk a bit. Lucy does what Lucy is designed to do, perfectly. I can't expect her to do my job too, which is learn how Lucy works best. I'll get back to you after the honeymoon stage (not quite there yet), when Lucy and I have been happily partnering in perspective long enough to show you some of our offspring! P.S. Some of the comments on the ads for Lucy , i.e. "That's cheating!" must be making some of the old masters grin in their graves!

I bought it for my husband. he couldnt be happier. easy to use...its the right tool for the right job. quick delivery, no problems.
I still have to adjust details that I prefer to change, but I get a much quicker start on my paintings. I dont suffer over proportions for hours.
I love the videos that help you set it up and use. Arrived quickly and is good quality. The only drawback was there are two filters included ( a light one and a dark one) and I got two dark filters. Not sure how critical they are, I can definitely use the Lucy without them, just was strange.
I received Lucy as a requested Christmas gift and Im delighted. I dont have the gift of being able to translate what I see in 3D to an image in 2D, but I love to draw and paint. This tool enables me to do exactly that, and. Its fun as well! Im delighted!
Excellent product; I use it all the time. Easy to put together, easy to store, I've accidentally dropped the glass several times and have had no issues, so it has been sturdy. The only drawback I can see is that you need perfect lighting conditions to obtain a good, traceable outline. I've tried using in open sunlight, a lighted studio, but the best results I've had is to use a hand-held floodlight so I can obtain the perfect tracing image. I use the floodlight and adjust the lighting as I trace. So far, after tracing over 50 images, I've not had to use any of the filters. I've traced directly onto paper and cotton painting canvas. With the aid of a handheld floodlight, I've been able to use this device in any lighting, dark or bright. I wish the flexible cable was offered in a longer length. Excellent product for the price. I would purchase it again and recommend to someone. Once you get the hang of it, it's a great tool.
You must have a good source of light to use this properly. It took some time getting this set up right, but it does work well. The subject was Not as bright as I expected, but with an artists eye and some patience, results are satisfactory.

It works! It's really portable! No, it's not cheating, you still have to make the drawing, but it helps to get difficult perspective and proportion right.
The LUCID ART-LUCY DRAWING TOOL has changed my life! My long time desire to learn to draw has been satisfied with this amazing tool. Setup was a snap thanks to the instructional videos provided by the ANCIENT MAGIC ART TOOLS website. Every aspect is thoroughly explained by its developer. After one or two tries, I had drawn a near perfect outline of my subject and I couldn't believe it was my hand that accomplished it! No previous talent just a wish. After I was done I knew I finally had the confidence to want to continue. The lenses and flexible arm are of excellent quality along with a nice sturdy clamp that attaches to your table. I used it in both standing and sitting positions and both were comfortable. I also ordered the Projector arm that also clamps to your table to be used in conjunction with your cell phone photos that you might be inspired to replicate. This is a MUST HAVE item!

this works pretty good but you need a ton of light to see very well.
If you think that buying this will turn you into a Dutch Master, then you are of course in for a disappointment. However, it is sturdily made, easy to use, and has clear instructions. I definitely draw much better illustrations when I use it than when I don't. What it does not do, of course, is make it easy to do photo-realistic art or anything like that. If you have realistic expectations about what it is possible for a device of this sort to do, though, you will be quite happy with this one.
Beautifully manufactured and packaged. However, due to some arthritic problems I was unable to use it. The company graciously gave me a refund. I was disappointed that I could not make it work for me.
This is the first time I have bought a camera Lucia and I'm happy to say that the LUCY turned up well packaged with all the working parts needed. The instructions are a bit of a mess, but nobody needs them to be honest. Although the build quality is made from cheap looking plastic that houses the mirrors, after using it a bit I realise that it has to be light weight so it doesn't dip down or bob around. So it's perfect for what it is intended for. The filters work well and improve the different lighting conditions I have tested it in. The clamp is the only part that is a little stiff but over time it should improve. The arm is the best part to be honest - as it quickly lets you adjust the image position without too much hassle. A straight metal arm would not let you clamp onto different surfaces. A Camera Lucia is not an easy tool to use and I can see it being hard to master, but it works well. I look forward to getting the hang of it. Overall the LUCY is a good package for the right price for an artist looking to experiment with the classic ways of image making.
